Saint-Louis : elle se prostituait pour rembourser 3 millions F CFA
On Saturday, April 18, officers from the Rosso (Saint-Louis) branch of the National Division for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Related Practices (DNTL) arrested Senegalese and foreign prostitutes at a guesthouse called Walo. Among them was W. Peace, also known as Ela, a Nigerian woman. According to Libération, which broke the story, she stated that she had been recruited from her country and forced into prostitution to repay a debt of 3 million CFA francs, allegedly incurred for her trip to Senegal.
The women designated AM Aw, the inn owner, as their host, in exchange for a share of their earnings. "Arrested and questioned, [he] partially denied the charges against him. He stated that he was the owner of the inn, but maintained that the prostitutes came to the inn of their own free will for 16,000 CFA francs per day," reports Libération.
Aw, however, admitted, according to the newspaper, that he did not have authorization from the Ministry of Tourism to operate in Walo. The daily newspaper reports that he was brought before the prosecutor in Saint-Louis on charges of human trafficking through sexual exploitation, pimping, inciting debauchery, operating an unlicensed inn, and criminal conspiracy.
