Thiès : G. Ba prend trois mois de prison pour le vol d'un cheval et la tentative de vol d'une charrette
The Thiès court sentenced a man named G. Bâ to three months' imprisonment for stealing a horse and attempting to steal a cart. The incidents occurred in Taïba Ndao, in the commune of Thiénaba.
According to the investigation, the accused first seized a horse belonging to S. Dioum, which was tied up near the houses. He then headed towards the field of a certain A. Ngom, intending to hitch the animal to a cart and flee.
His plan was thwarted, however. G. Bâ was surprised by A. Ngom as he was attempting to harness the horse. An altercation broke out between the two men, with the defendant insisting on taking the horse and cart despite the owner's objections.
Alerted, the residents of Taïba Ndao intervened. G. Bâ was subdued, then beaten, before being handed over to the gendarmerie.
In court, the defendant tried to deny the charges. However, during the preliminary investigation, he had admitted to his actions, stating that he had wanted to steal the horse and cart to help his mother.
For his part, S. Dioum explained that he had been informed of his horse's disappearance by his relatives. A. Ngom confirmed that he had caught the defendant in the act in his field and had intervened to prevent the theft of his cart.
The public prosecutor considered that the facts were established and described the defendant as a bad faith offender, requesting a sentence of three months imprisonment.
Following the prosecution's indictment, the court found G. Bâ guilty and sentenced him to three months in prison.
