More than a million dollars was raised to provide financial assistance to Ahmed al Ahmed, the 43-year-old man who managed to subdue one of the two attackers in the Sydney bombing. In a show of solidarity for Ahmed, whose condition has stabilized, a GoFundMe campaign was launched on Sunday, December 14th, by influencer Zachery Dereniowski, who has nearly 9 million followers on Instagram, and by the automotive company Car Hub Australia. The campaign was initiated "to express our gratitude and support for someone who showed incredible courage when it mattered most," as explained on the campaign's webpage.
Donation from a billionaire
The two creators explain that they donated $50,000 to launch the fundraiser "to honor this true hero and help him recover, as well as cope with the lasting consequences of this traumatic event." "No one expects to be a hero, but when the opportunity arose, he was," they add.
At the time of writing—in less than 24 hours—more than $1.8 million has been raised through 16,800 investments ranging from $10 to several thousand dollars. The largest investment of $99,999 was made by American billionaire and hedge fund manager William Ackman.

C'est à leur télévision BFMtv que j'ai écouté un journaliste bégayer: "Le père est celui qui a été abattu, il serait installé dans le pays en 2018, son pays d'origine n'a pas été donné, le fils est blessé et hospitalisé sous surveillance policière, le fils avait été suivi par la police pour des liens avec DAESH, mais après on l'avait trouvé non dangereux, etc ". Quand ils en faisaient des attentats islamistes c'était facile. C'est soit que le tueur n'a pas oublié de déposer sur l'asphalte sa carte d'identité, ou a crié "Allah Akbar ", ou a déposé là un Coran, etc. Le tueur a toujours prévu le nécessaire pour être rapidement identifié et arrêté. Mais cette fois... Souhaitons que ce soit la machine huilée avant le génocide des palestiniens qui est grippée.
