Corée du Sud : Yoon Suk-yeol condamné à la prison à vie pour insurrection
Former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol was sentenced to life imprisonment on February 19 by the Seoul Central District Court for insurrection. The prosecution had sought the death penalty, an alternative provided for by law, although no executions have taken place in the country since 1997.
On December 3, 2024, citing the threat of "forces hostile to the state," Yoon Suk-yeol proclaimed martial law in a surprise televised address, while the army sealed off Parliament. The suspension of civilian rule lasted only six hours: members of parliament managed to meet and thwart the coup.
Suspended, arrested and then dismissed in April 2025, the former conservative leader was replaced after an early presidential election won by his rival, Lee Jae-myung.
