Cybercriminalité: Elon Musk convoqué en avril par la justice française, perquisition chez X en France
The Paris prosecutor's office summoned billionaire Elon Musk, head of the X platform, on April 20, whose French premises are currently being searched for various alleged abuses, the Paris prosecutor said in a statement on Tuesday.
Elon Musk is summoned, as well as Linda Yaccarino, former CEO of X, on April 20 "for the purpose of voluntary hearings", "in their capacity as de facto and de jure managers of the X platform at the time of the events", specifies prosecutor Laure Beccuau.
Meanwhile, "a search is being carried out today (Tuesday) at the French premises of the X platform," the magistrate stated.
These investigative actions are being conducted as part of an investigation that began in early 2025. These investigations were initially opened following reports from members of parliament, denouncing biased algorithms of the social network X, led by magnate Elon Musk, which may have distorted its operation.
Since then, the investigations have been extended to other offences, including: complicity in the possession of images of minors of a pedopornographic nature, complicity in the dissemination, offering or making available by an organised group of images of minors of a pedopornographic nature, sexual deepfake, denialism.
In addition to Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino, "employees of platform X are also summoned the week of April 20-24, 2026 to be heard as witnesses," the prosecutor explained.
"The voluntary hearings of the managers should allow them to explain their position on the facts and, where applicable, the compliance measures envisaged," continued Laure Beccuau.
The choice to summon the protagonists for "free hearing" reflects the mindset of the investigators: "The conduct of this investigation is at this stage part of a constructive approach, with the objective of ultimately guaranteeing the compliance of platform X with French laws, insofar as it operates on the national territory."
The ongoing search is being conducted with the national cyber unit of the gendarmerie and in the presence of Europol.
Conversely, in the judicial investigation targeting the Kick platform, following the live death this summer of streamer Jean Pormanove, the cybercrime section of the Paris prosecutor's office issued arrest warrants at the end of January against the three de facto and de jure managers of the platform, which is also targeted as a legal entity.
The prosecutor's office explained that it was forced to do so because the protagonists, who had been summoned, had not appeared before the French justice system.
