In France, former President Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to five years in prison last Thursday for "allowing his relatives" to approach Gaddafi's Libya to obtain illegal funding for his 2007 presidential campaign. The magistrate who delivered the verdict is reportedly facing death threats, Aurélien Martini, deputy secretary general of the Union Syndicale des Magistrates (USM), said on Friday.

"Frankly, it's very worrying, we're in France here."

In more comprehensive terms, she is reportedly the target of death threats and violent assault on social media where her photo is published. Invited yesterday, Sunday, on BFMTV to discuss his new book "Juré, Craché," former Justice Minister Éric Dupond-Moretti attacked these people who are threatening to kill the judge. "You have to be morons, brainless to threaten the president. Frankly, it's very worrying, this is France," the former Minister of Justice said. He points out that the former president is currently "presumed innocent," since he has not yet pursued all avenues of appeal.

"These are people who aspire to the highest office in our country, but who..."

The person concerned has also filed an appeal, notes the lawyer, before attacking Marion Maréchal Le Pen who, after Sarkozy's conviction, spoke of "criminal conspiracy between Médiapart, the national financial prosecutor's office and a certain number of politically engaged magistrates."

For Éric Dupond-Moretti, such remarks are unworthy of someone who aspires to higher responsibilities in the state apparatus. "When we put forward things of this nature and do it in this way, we provide proof of the hatred, conspiracy, and criminal association that Ms. Marion Maréchal Le Pen speaks of. These are people who aspire to the highest office in our country, but who show no respect for the judicial authority that guarantees the rule of law in France," he denounced.
