A Peruvian woman was arrested in Bali coming from Qatar with 1.4 kilos of this drug and ecstasy.

A Peruvian woman was arrested on the Indonesian tourist island of Bali after attempting to import 1.4 kg of cocaine, partly concealed in a sex toy inserted into her vagina, police announced Tuesday.

The 42-year-old woman, whose identity has not been released by local authorities, arrived at Bali International Airport from Qatar on August 12. "Customs officials became suspicious of her behavior and, after consulting with the police, they conducted additional checks," the director of the Bali police narcotics unit said at a press conference.

Police then discovered 1.4 kg of cocaine, partly hidden in a sex toy inserted into her vagina. Police also accused her of transporting dozens of ecstasy pills. The Peruvian woman told police she had been hired to transport the drugs to Indonesia by a man she met on the dark web in April, in exchange for $20,000.

Indonesia has one of the toughest drug trafficking laws in the world. More than 90 foreigners are currently incarcerated on death row for drug trafficking, according to the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services. The last executions of death row inmates for drug trafficking, those of an Indonesian and three Nigerians, took place in 2016.

In recent months, however, the government of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has prioritized the repatriation of foreign convicts to their country. Frenchman Serge Atlaoui, a former death row inmate for drug trafficking, returned to France in February following an agreement between Paris and Jakarta.
