Maria Branyas, the oldest living woman in the world, invited scientists to analyze the keys to her exceptional longevity. After several months of research, the results have just been revealed.
A century and 17 years of life. María Branyas Morera was the oldest person in the world for a long time, before passing away in August 2024, at the age of 117. Her longevity record remains unmatched worldwide.
Born in 1907 in San Francisco, USA, she moved to Spain as a child. The daughter of a journalist from Pamplona, she spent the last twenty years of her life at her residence in Santa Maria de Tura, Catalonia.
After her age was entered into the Guinness Book of Records, María Branyas said she attributed her longevity to: "order, tranquility, good relationships with family and friends, contact with nature, emotional stability, absence of worries and regrets, a lot of positivity, and finally, staying away from toxic people."
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the dean had agreed to allow scientists to take a few samples for study. The results were conclusive: her biological age was approximately 23 years younger than her chronological age.
In their study, the researchers identified several factors that promote healthy aging : an efficient metabolism that quickly eliminates harmful fats and sugars, a beneficial microbiome, low levels of inflammation, a strong immune system, and a protective and resilient genome.
Added to this is her lucky genetics, as María Branyas has never suffered from any serious illness or major health problem, apart from a slight hearing impairment and some mobility difficulties.
Dr. Esteller, who conducted the analysis, explained to the American media Fox News : "We told him that his regular yogurt consumption and the specific composition of the bacteria in his gut could be linked to his long life. His lipid profile is exceptional: very low in cholesterol, low in bad fats, and high in HDL (good fats)."
María Branyas, for example, consumed three yogurts a day from the Catalan brand La Fageda. This statement had a very positive impact on this small company, located in the Catalan Pyrenees, whose demand for yogurts increased significantly.
Fageda is also known for its social commitment, promoting the professional integration of people with intellectual disabilities or mental health issues. This media spotlight has enabled the company to sustain its activity and pursue its social mission.
