Etats-Unis : Le Trésor américain révèle les brouillons d’une pièce commémorative à l’effigie de Trump
A $1 coin featuring Donald Trump could be minted in 2026 for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
A proposed $1 commemorative coin featuring Donald Trump for the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026 is already stirring up heated controversy, CNN reports. As confirmed by the US Treasury, the images circulating online are indeed authentic, but they are still drafts and no final decision has been made. The first design shows Donald Trump's profile with the inscriptions "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and the dates 1776 and 2026. The other side depicts the former president raising his fist during the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, with the words "Fight Fight Fight" against the backdrop of the American flag.
U.S. law prohibits the use of a living president's portrait on a coin. But according to the Trump administration, this project is part of the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act, which authorizes the issuance of special coins in 2026 but explicitly prohibits depictions of living people on the reverse.
The Treasury remains cautious
A Treasury spokesperson acknowledged that these initial designs reflected "the enduring spirit of American democracy," while stressing that no official design has been approved. At the White House, Donald Trump's entourage believes he would welcome the project.
Only Calvin Coolidge had been depicted on a coin during his lifetime in 1926. The Trump project could therefore set a historical precedent and fuel a legal and political debate as the country approaches its 250th anniversary.
