Face à l'Iran, Washington prend une décision radicale : La production de missiles THAAD va quadrupler
The Pentagon took a decisive step on Wednesday by announcing the signing of major industrial agreements aimed at massively accelerating the production of advanced weaponry. Faced with the intensity of the exchange of fire in the Middle East, the United States is securing its stockpiles of interceptor and tactical missiles from giants Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems.
The massive use of defense systems by the United States, Israel and the Gulf states to counter Iranian offensives has highlighted a major problem: the potential depletion of stocks of high-precision munitions, the unit cost of which is extremely high.
The Department of Defense has announced a fourfold increase in production of a critical component for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system. Considered one of the most advanced missile defense systems in the world, THAAD has been used extensively in recent weeks in the Middle Eastern theater of operations.
The agreement reached with Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems specifically concerns the seeker heads for these missiles. The objective is ambitious: Lockheed Martin, which currently produces around one hundred THAAD missiles per year, plans to increase this rate to approximately 400 units annually within a few years.
Alongside its air defenses, Washington is accelerating its tactical offensive capabilities. An agreement has been made public to increase production of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM). This tactical ballistic missile, successor to the well-known ATACMS, was recently used in combat for the first time during strikes against Iran.
According to a statement from Lockheed Martin, production of these next-generation ballistic missiles will also be quadrupled. This industrial ramp-up aims to ensure that the U.S. military and its allies maintain technological superiority and sufficient firepower in the face of expanding conflict zones.
