Frappes iraniennes: événements annulés et célébrations de l'Aid el fitr interdites dans le Golfe
Iran's attacks on Gulf countries have led some of them to cancel public events or even, as in Kuwait on Thursday, to ban celebrations.
"It has been decided to prohibit the holding of plays, concerts, and weddings during the Eid al-Fitr period and until further notice," the Kuwaiti Ministry of the Interior announced in a statement. This is a "preventive measure aimed at limiting large gatherings" and strengthening security, the ministry added.
The Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr takes place at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which is currently underway.
The Gulf, where American bases are located, is the region of the Middle East most severely affected by Iranian attacks, carried out in retaliation for US and Israeli strikes against the Islamic Republic since February 28.
The Gulf monarchies and the US military command for the Middle East have reported 24 deaths in the region since the start of the Iranian attacks.
Several countries have issued security alerts there, often asking the population to take shelter in buildings during the strikes.
From the outset of the conflict, Qatar suspended all public events until further notice, including those organized for iftar, the meal to break the Ramadan fast.
The start of the World Endurance Championship, scheduled for the end of March in Qatar, has also been postponed "in light of the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East", organizers of the 1,812 kilometer motor race announced.
In Dubai, the Global Village tourist attraction has been closed until further notice, casting doubt on the planned Eid fireworks displays, and some concerts, such as those at the Dubai Opera, have been postponed.
In early March, the Fujairah Challenger tennis tournament in the United Arab Emirates was also definitively cancelled after being interrupted "due to a security alert".
