Gaza : Trump impose son plan de paix, l’ONU mise devant le fait accompli
The announcement of Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan raises more questions than it answers. Will Hamas accept the conditions imposed by Washington? Will Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gain the support of his far-right coalition? And above all, will Israel agree to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid? So many questions remain unanswered.
The plan, unveiled at a White House press conference, calls for humanitarian aid to be delivered "without interference from either side, through the United Nations and its agencies, as well as the Red Crescent and other international institutions."
The UN, which was supposed to play a central role, was not consulted in advance and discovered the content of the text at the same time as the public.
Despite this, the organization says it is ready to act. "The UN is capable and stands ready to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza," said Jens Laerke, a spokesman for the Office of Humanitarian Affairs. "But I did not see any UN representatives at the press conference, so I cannot comment on the content of the plan."
Trump's plan is also causing embarrassment in New York. Just yesterday, Trump was cutting funding to the UN and harshly criticizing its institutions. Today, he is giving it a central role in a peace process that it neither supported nor endorsed.
The document provides for the continuation of the activities of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a controversial organization accused of causing the deaths of more than a thousand Palestinians during chaotic aid distributions.
