Guerre à Gaza : Aux côtés de 47 athlètes, Paul Pogba dénonce le « génocide à Gaza » et demande à l’UEFA d’exclure Israël
Soon to return to the pitch in an AS Monaco jersey, Paul Pogba is one of the 48 athletes who signed a statement denouncing "the genocide in Gaza," alongside Moroccan footballer Hakim Ziyech and British boxer Zak Chelli. Under the banner "Athletes 4 Peace," they affirmed that "sport must uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and humanity" and called for the exclusion of Israeli teams from all UEFA-organized competitions.
The initiative, coordinated by a British organization working to defend Muslim athletes, Nujum Sports, also paid tribute to Suleiman Al-Obeid, nicknamed the "Palestinian Pele", who was killed last August by an Israeli army shot during a food aid distribution.
The world of sport is (finally) breaking its silence
The signatories also welcomed the position of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who explained that Israel should not be able to use international platforms to improve its image, following the pro-Palestinian demonstrations seen during the Vuelta 2025.
"This is not about politics or taking sides, but about justice, humanity, and the values that sport claims to embody," the signatories declare. "We cannot allow nations to whitewash their illegal and inhumane actions through sport." According to a recent report in The Times, UEFA is currently considering the idea of banning Israel from European competitions, with the majority of the body's executive members in favor. An announcement could even be made in the coming days.
