Donald Trump's name appears repeatedly in a new batch of Epstein case documents released Tuesday, which illustrate his past ties to the sex offender, who was found hanged in his cell in 2019.

The US Department of Justice claimed that some of these documents, including one showing that the US president allegedly traveled several times on Jeffrey Epstein's plane, contained "false and sensationalist" claims.

The person in question, who is spending the holiday period in Florida, did not immediately react to the release of these 11,000 new documents, which came after a first batch of documents were leaked on Friday.

Donald Trump spent his morning golfing before returning to his Mar-a-Lago estate. He did post on his Truth Social network, but on topics unrelated to this politically explosive affair.

On Monday, he said he feared that this release, which the government is compelled to make by an act of Congress, would affect the "image" of people "who innocently met" Jeffrey Epstein at parties.

Donald Trump, who has never been accused of criminal acts in connection with the former financier, tried in vain to prevent the release of the documents, causing incomprehension among many supporters of his "MAGA" movement.

- Handwritten letter -

The US president acknowledges having associated with Jeffrey Epstein in the 1990s, when both were prominent figures in the New York jet set, but claims to have severed ties before he was investigated by the justice system.

He also maintains that their relationship was not particularly close.

The American president appears eight times on the passenger list of Jeffrey Epstein's private plane between 1993 and 1996, including once with only the former financier and a 20-year-old as other passengers, an investigator claims in a 2020 email made public.

Two other new documents were the subject of particular commentary on Tuesday.

The first is a handwritten letter apparently signed by Jeffrey Epstein and addressed to Larry Nassar, former doctor for the US gymnastics team sentenced to life imprisonment for hundreds of sexual assaults.

Donald Trump is described there as "also sharing our love of nubile young girls".

"When a young beauty walked past him, he loved to 'grab (her) pussy'", continues the letter attributed to the former businessman.

The government disputed the authenticity of this letter. "The FBI has confirmed that this alleged letter (...) was FAKE," the Justice Department stated on X.

According to the department, the federal police reached this conclusion after noting, among other things, that the handwriting did not appear to match that of Jeffrey Epstein and that the letter had been processed three days after the death of the former financier, who was then being held in custody awaiting trial.

"This fake letter serves as a reminder that the mere fact that a document is made public by the Department of Justice does not mean that the accusations or claims it contains are factual," the department added in its message.

- "Accomplices" -

Another key piece of evidence is a 2019 email exchange between FBI agents discussing the existence of ten alleged "accomplices" of Jeffrey Epstein in the United States.

"The Justice Department needs to shed more light on who was on the list, their involvement, and its decision not to prosecute" these individuals, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

Jeffrey Epstein was accused of running a vast sex trafficking ring involving underage girls. He committed suicide in prison in August 2019, according to authorities, before his trial.

His former associate Ghislaine Maxwell, accused by several alleged victims of helping to recruit them, is the only other person prosecuted in this case. She is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence in the United States.

More than ten years earlier, the financier had been accused in Florida of using the services of underage prostitutes and sentenced in 2008 to a reduced prison term of 13 months, according to a secret agreement made with a prosecutor, which spared him federal prosecution.
