La sénatrice raciste menace Kylian Mbappé et exige des excuses
Paraguayan politician Celeste Amarilla has written an open letter to Kylian Mbappé. She demands an apology and threatens legal action.
The case of Celeste Amarilla's racist insults towards Kylian Mbappé has taken an unexpected turn. The Paraguayan senator had notably called the French player a "chimpanzee" and his head a "coconut" after Les Bleus' victory against Albirroja in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. On his social media, Kylian Mbappé condemned the politician's remarks as "miserable" and "unworthy of her position."
Celeste Amarilla responded on Tuesday via her Instagram account by addressing an open letter to Kylian Mbappé. And the least one can say is that the senator is quite audacious.
First, she wanted to express her regret for the words she wrote in the heat of the moment. “My posts were made in the heat of the moment. This mixed blood, this beautiful blend of Indigenous and Spanish blood that flows in my veins. However, a little later, I regretted having mistreated you with the same insults I myself receive. I am despised because I am a dark-skinned, Latina woman. I regretted it and I deleted the message. I understand that it hurt you, because it is humiliating.”
"Retract your statement and honor your French citizenship."
So far, so good. Except that Celeste Amarilla concluded her letter, which certainly started with good intentions, with threats towards Kylian Mbappé.
“Now I demand that you also retract your statement and apologize to me,” she wrote. “I, too, will not tolerate your violence. You don’t know me, you have no idea who I am, and you have no right to call me a despicable woman, unworthy of the position I hold. This is pure and simple gender-based violence! Retract your statement with me, honor your French citizenship, and apologize, or I may take legal action for gender-based violence.”
Celeste Amarilla even hit rock bottom by explaining that she had nothing against France since she had studied in France and had spent the last holiday season in Courchevel.
President Emmanuel Macron had expressed his support for Kylian Mbappé following the racist remarks made by the Paraguayan senator. FIFA President Gianni Infantino, for his part, had unequivocally condemned the insulting comments directed at the French national team captain.
