L'armée israélienne appelle à l'évacuation de la ville de Gaza avant un assaut annoncé
The Israeli army called on residents of Gaza City on Saturday morning to evacuate to a declared "humanitarian" zone further south, in anticipation of a ground assault on the city, the largest in the Palestinian territory devastated by nearly 23 months of war.
Colonel Avichay Adraee, the army's Arabic-speaking spokesman, made the call on social media as the UN, which estimates the region's population to be around one million, warned of a coming "disaster" if the offensive on Gaza City expands.
The Israeli army, which claims to control about 75% of the Gaza Strip and 40% of this metropolitan area, says it wants to seize it to defeat Hamas and free the hostages it is still holding.
The call to evacuate comes after US President Donald Trump said Friday that the United States was "in extensive negotiations with Hamas," whose unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, triggered the war.
"We tell them: 'Release them all immediately,' otherwise 'it's going to be terrible,'" he said.
Mr. Trump also suggested that some of the hostages may have "recently died." The Israeli military currently estimates that 25 of the 47 remaining captives in Gaza—out of 251 abducted on October 7—are dead.
The Palestinian Islamist movement agreed in August to a truce and hostage release proposal put forward by mediators (Egypt, the United States, and Qatar). Benjamin Netanyahu's government is demanding that he lay down his arms and says it wants to take control of the Gaza Strip.
In his message, Colonel Adraee stated that in order to "facilitate the departure of residents" from Gaza City, the coastal sector of Al-Mawasi, in the south of the territory, has been declared a "humanitarian zone."
According to the army, this area includes "essential humanitarian infrastructure" and is supplied "with food, tents, medicines and medical equipment."
Since the start of the war, which has ravaged the Gaza Strip, now plagued by famine across 20% of the territory according to the UN, the army has often bombed areas declared "humanitarian" and "safe," claiming to be targeting Hamas fighters.
"The army lies to people. When we go looking for help (...) they open fire," said Abdelnasser Muchtaha, 48, who was displaced west of Gaza City after leaving his bombed-out neighborhood of Zeitoun. He says he wants to stay put "for now."
Already displaced in Al-Mawasi with his family, Bassam al-Astal, 52, insists that the area is "neither humanitarian nor safe." "This is where the most martyrs are every day, there is no space for tents, no humanitarian services, no water, no sanitation, no food aid," he says.
On Friday, the Israeli army further intensified its operations in Gaza City, bombing a high-rise building in the center after a call to evacuate, which collapsed like a house of cards.
According to the army, Hamas had installed "infrastructure" there to "prepare and carry out attacks" against it. It had previously warned that it would target "terrorist infrastructure" in the coming days, particularly in high-rise buildings.
Hamas dismissed as "false pretexts and outright lies" Israel's claims that it was using the buildings.
The Civil Defense in the Palestinian territory, where Hamas seized power in 2007, reported 42 people killed Friday by Israeli gunfire or shelling, half of them in Gaza City.
Given media restrictions in Gaza and the difficulties of accessing the ground, AFP is unable to independently verify the Civil Defense's reports.
Hamas also released a video showing two hostages - Guy Gilboa-Dalal and Alon Ohel - as relatives and supporters of the captives mobilized across Israel to mark their 700 days in detention and demand their return.
The footage shows Mr. Gilboa-Dalal asking Mr. Netanyahu not to launch an offensive in Gaza City.
"No evil propaganda video will weaken us or blunt our resolve," the Israeli prime minister said after speaking with the parents of the two men, according to his office.
The October 7 attack resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people on the Israeli side, the majority of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official data.
Israeli reprisals have left at least 64,300 dead in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, whose figures are considered reliable by the UN.

Les Arabes craignent plus l'Iran qu'Israel. Ils voient Israël comme leur protecteur contre les Iraniens et en échange ont abandonné les Palestiniens. Quand le Hamas s'est tourné vers l'Iran, il a fait une croix définitive sur un soutien arabe, ça à été vu comme la plus grande des trahison. Seulement le Hamas n'avait pas le choix car le sort des Palestiniens était déjà scellé. Rappelez-vous qu'avant sont attaque en Israël, l'Arabie Saoudite s'apprêtait à signer un accord de reconnaissance et de défense mutuelle officielle avec Israël.
L'AFP, c'est la communication de l'armée israélienne. Malheureusement c'est uniquement la version que nous avons. Mais quand on utilise son cerveau, quand on a de la mémoire, et que sur un an on met bout à bout les titres de l'AFP portant sur les assauts finaux de l'armée israélienne, toujours incapable de retrouver ses otages et les libérer depuis, pire, une armée qui se fait d'ailleurs capturer ses soldats qui allongent la liste de ses prisonniers aux mains du Hamas, on finit bien par comprendre que c'est une armée qui se fait casser la gueule.

Confirmation de ce que je fais observer aux sénégalais depuis plus de 12 ans: les souteneurs de Firaouna Sall sont toujours des souteneurs d'Israël. Zuckerberg a révélé au sénat américain qu'il a supprimé sur Facebook les activités d'une société israélienne qui intervenait dans les élections sénégalaises pour soutenir Macky Sall. C'est dire donc que c'est la même famille: secte APR et secte sioniste talmudique qui dirige Israël, c'est kif-kif.
