Le Portugal reconnaîtra officiellement l'Etat de Palestine dimanche

Portugal will officially recognize the State of Palestine on Sunday, its foreign ministry announced Friday evening.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that Portugal will recognize the State of Palestine (...). The official declaration of recognition will take place on Sunday, September 21," just before the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, according to a statement published on the ministry's website.

At the end of July, Lisbon had already announced its intention to recognize the State of Palestine after "multiple contacts" with its partners and in particular taking into account "the extremely worrying development of the conflict, both on the humanitarian level and through repeated references to a possible annexation of Palestinian territories" by Israel, detailed a press release from the Prime Minister's office.

Portugal will not be alone, as a summit in New York on Monday, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, will focus on the future of the two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace and security.

And according to the French presidency, nine other countries plan to recognize the Palestinian state at this meeting: Andorra, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg, Malta, the United Kingdom, San Marino, and France.

Last week, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a text that supports a future Palestinian state but unequivocally excludes Hamas.

Portugal's neighbor, Spain, along with Ireland and Norway, recognized the State of Palestine in May 2024.

About three-quarters of the UN's 193 member states recognize the Palestinian state proclaimed by the Palestinian leadership in exile in 1988.

Finalement, malgré que l'attaque du Hamas en Israël e octobre 2023 a causé beaucoup de dégâts humains et matériels pour la Palestine et les palestiniens, elle ne sera pas nulle. Elle aura des retombées positives avec la réaction exagérée de Israël qui fini par exacerber ceux qui soutenaient Israël en lui disant qu'il avait le droit de se défendre. Aujourd'hui ce ceux mêmes pays qui finissent par RECONNAÎTRE L'ÉTAT PALESTINIEN.
