Le Qatar arrête plus de 300 personnes pour publication de "rumeurs" et d'images d'attaques
Qatari authorities have arrested more than 300 people for publishing images and "misleading information" during Iran's attacks on the small Gulf state, the Interior Ministry announced Monday.
The 313 people arrested, "of various nationalities", "filmed and disseminated video footage, and published misleading information and rumors", the ministry said in a statement.
They were apprehended by the ministry's economic and cybercrime unit.
These arrests echo measures taken in other Gulf countries, as Iran targets airports, military bases, energy facilities and residential areas in the region daily with drones and missiles.
In Bahrain, four people were arrested for "filming and disseminating video footage on the effects of Iranian attacks and spreading fake news," the Interior Ministry said Friday.
In Kuwait, authorities announced on Saturday the arrest of three people for a video in which they mocked the situation in the country.
Residents of the United Arab Emirates have received text messages warning them of possible legal action if they share sensitive images or spread "unreliable information".
The UAE Attorney General's office also warned against "filming, publishing or disseminating images and videos documenting the scenes of incidents or damage caused by falling projectiles or shrapnel," the Emirati news agency News Agency reported.
Saudi Arabia has also issued similar warnings.
Despite these warnings, images of missiles, drones and the aftermath of war continue to circulate on social media and in group discussions.
