« Leur pays est pourri » : Le Premier ministre somalien réagit aux insultes de Trump
Does Donald Trump respect Africa? It's a legitimate question to ask, given the way the American president treats certain countries on the continent. After accusing South Africa, without a shred of evidence, of persecuting white farmers and insulting Nigeria, the Republican billionaire is now attacking Somalia with the same irreverence.
He declared yesterday, Tuesday, that this country in the Horn of Africa is "rotten".
"Their country is filthy."
"In Somalia, they have nothing, they just kill each other. Their country is rotten and for good reason. Their country is filthy and we don't want them here," Trump said, speaking about Somali immigrants in the United States.
These remarks, which could well be attributed to a badly behaved child, naturally displeased Somalia, but Mogadishu prefers not to make a big deal out of it, recalling that the American president is known for this kind of behavior.
"There are things that don't deserve any comment; we ignore them."
“Trump didn’t just insult Somalia. He also made disparaging remarks about many countries, including Nigeria and South Africa. There are some things that don’t warrant comment; we ignore them. It’s better to ignore them than to give undue importance to his remarks,” said Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
