Former Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a longtime loyalist of Donald Trump, condemned the US strikes on Iran on Saturday as a "betrayal" by the American president of his base, which she said had voted to end foreign interventions. Greene, a prominent figure of the radical right who resigned from the House of Representatives in January after a public falling out with Trump, denounced the strikes and the "lie" that Iran was on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons in a lengthy post on X.
"We've been hearing this phrase for decades and Trump told us all that his bombings last summer completely destroyed" Iran's nuclear facilities, she added, referring to the US strikes in Iran in June 2025. "It's still a lie and it's still about putting 'America last'," she wrote, referring to the Republican president's "America First" slogan.
“But it feels like this is the worst betrayal this time because it comes from the same man and the same government that we all thought were different and were saying ‘enough is enough’,” continued Marjorie Taylor Greene.
"Marjorie the Traitor"
At the time of the strikes last June, she had already lamented having travelled the country campaigning for the Republican only to see him break his anti-interventionist commitment.
A few months later, Donald Trump publicly broke with this long-time ally and figure in his MAGA movement (“Make America Great Again”), calling her “Marjorie “The Traitor” Greene” and “Maggie “The Crazy One”,” after the congresswoman criticized his handling of the Epstein affair.
In her message on X on Saturday, Marjorie Taylor Greene again criticized Donald Trump on this issue. "For years we have called for the release of the Epstein files, demanding transparency and justice for thousands of victims, women and children, at the hands of the richest and most powerful men in the world, and we had to fight Trump himself for it." "Instead, we get a war with Iran on behalf of Israel," she said.
