Liban: le nouveau bilan des frappes israéliennes s'élève à 394 morts (ministre de la Santé)
Ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanon have killed 394 people in one week, including 83 children and 42 women, Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine announced at a press conference on Sunday.
The previous toll announced Saturday by the ministry reported 294 dead since Lebanon was drawn into the regional war on Monday by an attack by pro-Iranian Hezbollah against Israel.
According to the minister, 1,130 people were also injured in the strikes targeting the capital and its suburbs, southern and eastern Lebanon.
"It is civilians who are being targeted, not military personnel and military installations," as Israel claims, the minister said.
"They are targeting homes, rescue workers, the health sector," he continued, stating that "the massacres have intensified in the last 48 hours."
The minister stressed that nine rescuers had been killed since the start of the war and four hospitals partially damaged, and denounced the attacks against "medical teams and ambulances".
On Sunday, a strike targeted the heart of Beirut for the first time, killing four and injuring ten in a hotel in a tourist area where displaced people from the targeted areas had flocked.
Israel claimed to have targeted Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
Strikes also targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold deserted by a large part of its inhabitants.
In the south, an airstrike targeted a house in the village of Sir al-Gharbiyé, killing at least 11 people according to the ministry.
Rescuers were searching through the rubble for victims, according to an AFP photographer at the scene. Mayor Saadallah Maatouk told AFP that some 500 families had remained despite Israeli evacuation orders.
Another raid targeted Ghaziyé, a town adjacent to Saïda, the major southern city, destroying a building, according to an AFP correspondent on the ground.
