Macky Sall à la tribune des Nations Unies
Former Senegalese President Macky Sall outlined his vision and ambitions before United Nations member states on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. His address was part of a broader global reflection on contemporary challenges and the opportunities presented by technological advances, particularly artificial intelligence.
According to him, humanity stands at a decisive turning point. "New horizons are opening with technological progress, especially artificial intelligence," he emphasized.
He insisted, however, on the need to wisely govern this revolution, viewing it as a powerful lever for progress in service of humanity, but also as a matter of global governance.
In the face of urgent challenges—security crises, climate change, and persistent inequalities—Macky Sall reaffirmed the central role of multilateralism. In his view, it remains "the indispensable framework for our common ambitions," whether to preserve international peace and security, protect human rights, or promote inclusive development.
He also stressed the necessity of strengthening solidarity among peoples in an increasingly interdependent world.
It is in this spirit that he frames his candidacy, highlighting extensive experience at the highest levels of state and in public affairs. Drawing on nearly forty years of leadership roles, he described a career that took him from the lower administrative rungs to the highest offices: civil servant, national director, mayor, minister, Prime Minister, President of the National Assembly, and then President of the Republic for twelve years.
Beyond titles, he emphasized a practice of power based on dialogue and listening. "I have learned to consult, to drive reforms, to arbitrate between priorities, and to make sometimes difficult decisions," he stated.
This experience, also enriched by exchanges with African and international leaders in forums such as the G7, G20, and various bilateral and multilateral bodies, constitutes, in his view, a major asset.
Furthermore, Macky Sall believes that "the test of power" has prepared him to understand the expectations of member states and to act effectively to meet them. A way of presenting his profile as "that of an experienced leader, capable of navigating a complex and constantly evolving international environment."
