In Michigan, USA, ChatGPT generated numbers matching four of the five white lottery balls, as well as the red Powerball, for a forty-year-old.
She owes the artificial intelligence tool a lot. After asking ChatGPT to generate winning numbers, a Michigan resident in the United States won $100,000 (€85,000) in the Powerball lottery, the US news agency UPI reported on October 16.
Last September, a woman in her forties from Wyandotte, near Detroit, decided to try her luck in the Powerball lottery, which had a jackpot of over $1 billion. "I only play Powerball when the jackpot is really high, so I bought a ticket," she told Michigan Lottery officials, according to UPI.
“This sum will really help us breathe.”
But to choose her combination, the 40-year-old asked the artificial intelligence tool to generate a series of numbers for her. "I asked ChatGPT for a combination of Powerball numbers, and those are the ones I played on my ticket," she said.
And ChatGPT had a good nose for it. Thanks to the numbers generated by the tool, the forty-year-old won $100,000 in the September 6 drawing. Her numbers matched those of four of the five white balls, as well as the red ball, the Powerball, for a win of $50,000 (€42,000). But thanks to the Power Play option, which costs an extra dollar per grid and doubles her winnings, the forty-year-old ultimately won $100,000 (€85,000).
“When I checked the winning numbers, I saw I had four plus the Powerball, so I knew I had won something,” she explains. “Google told me it was $50,000, so that’s what I thought I had won. It wasn’t until I logged into my Michigan Lottery account that I saw I had added the Power Play option… and I had actually won $100,000!” she continues, adding, “My husband and I couldn’t believe it.”
This sum will allow the forty-year-old and her husband to pay off their house and save. "This sum will really help us breathe a little financially," she said happily.
