Ouragan Melissa : dévastation "à des niveaux jamais vus" en Jamaïque, selon l'ONU
The devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa has reached "unprecedented levels" in Jamaica, a UN official on the ground said Wednesday.
"From what we know so far, there has been immense, unprecedented destruction of infrastructure, property, roads, communication and energy networks," said Dennis Zulu, UN coordinator in several Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, speaking from Kingston via video.
"People are in shelters across the country and at the moment our preliminary assessments show that the country has been devastated at levels never seen before," he added, mentioning an initial estimate of one million people affected.
