Pourquoi Lecornu a-t-il démissionné ? L’éphémère Premier ministre a donné les trois raisons
After submitting his resignation to Emmanuel Macron, Sébastien Lecornu spoke from Matignon.
An unprecedented speech for a historic decision. Sébastien Lecornu, the brief tenant of Matignon , spoke on Monday, October 6, to explain the reasons for his resignation , less than twelve hours after the appointment of his government.
" You can't be a minister when the conditions aren't met ," he explained in the courtyard of Matignon to begin with, listing the tasks that had occupied him over the past three weeks in order to form a government and " build a path. " A path that was abruptly interrupted this Monday morning, 27 days after his appointment.
There is no question of mea culpa or questioning in this speech, as Sébastien Lecornu quickly made clear. Three reasons led him to resign. And all of them, as you can see in the video at the top of the article , call into question the political parties as a whole.
First, for Sébastien Lecornu, his decision not to use Article 49, paragraph 3, of the Constitution did not have the desired effect. " The political parties pretended not to see the profound rupture represented by not using Article 49-3 ," he regretted. A gesture that he nevertheless considers decisive, and which he would have liked the political parties to say to themselves allows "to do things differently. "
The second reason for his departure: " the posture " of the political parties, which, according to him, act " as if they all had an absolute majority in the Assembly. " The resigning Prime Minister denounces here the inability of the political world to allow debate and to organize compromises, and calls on all parties to " change their mindset. "
Ultimately, it was the common core that took the rap: " The composition of the government within the common core was not fluid and gave rise to the awakening of certain partisan appetites ," said Sébastien Lecornu, without mentioning Bruno Retailleau. " It would take little for it to work, for us to be able to achieve this (...) by being more disinterested, by showing humility ."
" You should always prefer your country to your party ," he added. This was an undisguised message for the leader of the Republicans and outgoing Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau . It was the latter who plunged the fledgling Lecornu government into the unknown on Sunday evening by publicly expressing his doubts about his party's participation. A word to the wise.
