Quand Donald Trump menace de « pulvériser »… Oman, pourtant allié des États-Unis
Donald Trump threatened to "pulverize" Oman during a cabinet meeting, seemingly confusing the US-allied sultanate with Iran.
Simple slip of the tongue or real threat? On Wednesday, Donald Trump threatened to "pulverize" Oman, a US ally, seemingly confusing the sultanate on the Arabian Peninsula with Iran.
The US president also confused Iran and Venezuela during the same public address, at a cabinet meeting at the White House. "Oman will behave like the others or we'll have to pulverize them," he declared.
The 79-year-old billionaire also stated during the televised cabinet meeting that the American economy remained prosperous "despite the conflict with Venezuela, which no longer has a navy, which no longer has an air force." He typically uses this description of a militarily devastated country to describe Iran.
He was questioned about the possibility of Oman and Iran gaining future control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz , a scenario he rejected. The strait will remain "open to everyone," the US president promised. "These are international waters. We will monitor them, but no one will control them," he asserted.
This is not the first time Donald Trump has confused the names of countries. He has previously spoken of Albania instead of Armenia, for example, or mentioned Iceland instead of Greenland.
