Rappel de véhicules BMW : Nouveau risque d’incendie, plus de 300.000 de voitures concernées

BMW is facing another massive recall. 337,000 vehicles worldwide, including 29,000 in Germany, are affected by a potential fire risk linked to dashboard wiring.

Another blow for BMW. The German transport authority has issued a recall notice for several of the manufacturer's models due to a potential fire risk. This is the second such recall for the group in less than a month.

According to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, KBA), approximately 337,000 vehicles worldwide, including 29,000 in Germany, are "potentially affected" by a "fire risk" related to dashboard wiring. Contacted by AFP on Friday evening, a BMW spokesperson confirmed the number of vehicles recalled in Germany but could not confirm the global total. The number of vehicles recalled in France is not yet known.

Five models are affected by the recall

According to the recall notice published Wednesday by the KBA (Belgian Federal Motor Transport Authority), five luxury models – the 5 Series, i7, 7 Series, i5, and M5 – produced between June 9, 2022, and December 5, 2025, are affected. The authority specifies that the issue is "a faulty installation of the dashboard wiring harness."

This incorrect installation could, during cabin air filter replacement, damage the cables and cause "a short circuit with smoke and a risk of fire," explains the KBA. The agency indicates, however, that "no" incidents are known at this stage. The recall is intended to allow for inspection and, if necessary, correction of the cable installation.

Nearly 600,000 vehicles had already been recalled by mid-February

This latest development comes after another recall campaign announced in mid-February 2026. BMW had then confirmed the recall of hundreds of thousands of vehicles worldwide, without specifying the number. The specialist magazine Kfz-Betrieb mentioned a total of 575,000 vehicles.

Sixteen models equipped with a starter relay, produced between July 2020 and July 2022, presented a similar risk of short circuit and therefore fire, according to BMW. By the end of 2024, the manufacturer had already recalled 1.5 million vehicles for a defective braking system, a decision that led it to lower its annual targets.
