The American magazine "Forbes" has published a ranking of the world's richest black people. Unsurprisingly, Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote tops the list, with an estimated wealth of $23.9 billion. The CEO of Dangote Group is benefiting from the prosperity of his mega-oil refinery in Lagos.
According to Forbes, this factory increased his wealth by $10.5 billion.
David Steward, the richest African American
The Kano native is far ahead of his closest rival, American David Steward. This man, who is also the richest African American, co-founded World Wide Technology, a company that provides IT solutions to clients such as Verizon and Citi. His fortune is estimated at $11.4 billion. He still runs this company, which has annual revenues of $20 billion.
David Steward is closely followed by his compatriot Robert F. Smith. This sixty-year-old is the founder of Vista Equity Partners, the largest Black-owned private equity firm in the country. This firm manages assets worth $100 billion. Robert F. Smith is worth $10.8 billion.
Alexandre Karp, the Métis who is worth 8.4 billion dollars
Ranked fourth is Alexandre Karp. Born to an African-American mother, this man is the co-founder and CEO of Palantir Technologies, a data mining company. The company went public in 2020 and its market capitalization is currently valued at $200 billion. Palantir's clients include several government agencies such as the FBI. It also works with the Department of Defense. Karp is worth $8.4 billion.
Right behind the American is Nigerian Mike Adenuga. This telecom magnate is worth $6.8 billion. He is the owner of Globacom, a mobile phone network, and Conoil, an oil exploration company.
Mickael Jordan in front of Patrice Motsepe
Sixth place in the ranking is occupied by another Nigerian: Abdulsamad Rabiu. He is the founder of the BUA Group, a conglomerate involved in real estate, cement production, and sugar. His fortune is $5.1 billion. He is ahead of American basketball player Michael Jordan and his $3.5 billion.
Ranking eighth in this ranking are two Black figures: Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football and CEO of the mining and mineral company African Rainbow Minerals, and American talk show star Oprah Winfrey. Both figures are worth $3 billion. Rapper Jay-Z, with $2.6 billion, rounds out the top 10.
