Trump “très mal à l’aise” avec la frappe israélienne sur son allié qatari
The Israeli strike against Hamas officials in Doha, Qatar, made Donald Trump "very uncomfortable," the White House said Tuesday, adding that Washington had warned its Qatari ally.
“Unilaterally bombing Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is working hard, courageously, and taking risks to negotiate peace, does not advance the goals of Israel or America,” Karoline Leavitt told reporters.
Israel and Qatar are two close allies of the United States in the Middle East.
“The Trump administration was notified this morning (Tuesday) by the US military” of the upcoming Israeli attack, she said during a press briefing. “President Trump immediately ordered Envoy (Steve) Witkoff to inform Qatar of the impending attack, which he did.”
Qatar denies being warned by Washington
Qatar, however, denied having received advance warning from the United States of the Israeli strikes on Doha on Tuesday, saying it was informed after the start of the attack targeting Hamas officials in the Qatari capital.
Asked about the matter, the White House spokeswoman declined to say whether Israel had warned the United States of its intention to conduct strikes in Doha or whether the American military had learned of it on its own.
Trump speaks with the emir and Netanyahu
Following the bombing, Donald Trump spoke with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the US government spokeswoman said.
The US president assured Qatar's leaders that "such a thing would not happen again on their soil," the spokeswoman added.
The United States has a military base in Doha. The US embassy there urged its citizens in the country on Tuesday to "stay safe" after the Israeli strike.
