Turquie : le maire d’Istanbul risque plus de 2 400 ans de prison
The mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, is appearing in court on March 9, 2026 in a major corruption case.
The elected representative of the Republican People's Party (CHP), the main opposition party in Turkey, is accused of having led a criminal network involved in acts of corruption, embezzlement and espionage.
Arrested since March 2025, he is on trial alongside 407 other defendants and faces a sentence of up to 2,430 years in prison.
The opposition, for its part, denounces an attempt at political intimidation.
