Turquie : un missile tiré depuis l'Iran se dirigeant vers l'espace aérien turc a été détruit
A missile fired from Iran, which was heading towards Turkish airspace, was destroyed by NATO defense systems based in the eastern Mediterranean, the Turkish Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
"A ballistic missile fired from Iran, heading towards Turkish airspace after flying over Iraqi and Syrian airspace, was intercepted and neutralized in time by NATO air and missile defense elements deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean. (...) The incident caused no casualties or injuries," the Turkish ministry stated in a press release published on X.
"All necessary measures to defend our territory and airspace will be taken firmly and without hesitation. We remind you that we reserve the right to respond to any hostile action against our country," the ministry added.
A piece of debris belonging to an air defense munition fell in the district of Dörtyol, in the province of Hatay, in the southeast of the country, the ministry said.
"Any hostile action will receive the appropriate response within the framework of international law. Consultation and cooperation with NATO and our allies will continue throughout this process," said Burhanettin Duran, the Turkish presidency's communications director, speaking on X.
Ankara warned Iran against any action that could lead to an escalation of the conflict, after intercepting a missile heading towards Turkish airspace, a source at the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told his Iranian counterpart during a phone call that "any measure that could lead to an escalation of the conflict should be avoided," the source added.
