« Un faux pilote » : un commandant de bord sans diplôme aurait fait voler des Airbus A320 dans plusieurs pays d’Europe
Hired by the Lithuanian company Avion Express, the man allegedly lied about his qualifications before becoming a captain on A320s across Europe until this summer.
He has an incalculable number of flight hours across Europe. A captain is at the center of an internal investigation for lying about his qualifications and flying without the required diplomas.
This case, revealed this week by the specialized media outlet Aero Telegraph, has been confirmed by the airline in question. "We confirm that the individual in question was a former pilot who worked for our company," a company spokesperson stated. "The company recently became aware of unverified information regarding his professional experience."
An internal investigation has been launched, and the pilot has been suspended since this summer. According to initial reports, the individual—described as a "fake pilot" by local media—was allegedly hired as captain by falsifying documents about his professional experience. The airline maintains that it adheres to its "strict" recruitment procedures.
The man had previously held only a co-pilot position with Garuda Indonesia and had never obtained the necessary qualifications to become a captain. Since the "fake pilot" had also worked for Eurowings, the German airline "has called in security experts to conduct a more thorough investigation."
Founded in 2005, Avion Express specializes in providing aircraft and crews on a short-term basis with a fleet mainly composed of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, which operate in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
