« Un gentil chien » : Un policier tire sur un Shih Tzu, son maître recevra 500.000 dollars
The mayor of Sturgeon (USA) recently resigned and a city police officer was suspended after the death of a five-year-old dog shot by the mayor in May 2024, sparking widespread outrage.
“Teddy was a sweet dog who didn’t deserve this. We hope other law enforcement agencies will learn from this and better train their officers in the future so that this never happens again,” commented the lawyers for the owner of a dog shot dead in Sturgeon, Missouri (USA). The five-year-old Shih Tzu was deaf and blind, The Independent reported on Tuesday.

The animal was killed by a police officer on May 19, 2024, after escaping from its owner's property and wandering into another resident's yard. The latter had called the police to locate the dog's owner. Footage from a body camera by one of the officers showed the owner attempting to capture Teddy by chasing him, but without success. The officer is then seen shooting the dog and explaining to its owner that he thought it was a stray.
However, the Sturgeon town hall publicly defended the police officer, stating that it believed Teddy had rabies. This stance sparked controversy and led to the mayor's resignation. The officer who shot the dog was also suspended. The dog's owner, for his part, sued the town and was awarded $500,000 in damages, or approximately €430,000.

Rest in peace petit être 😢
Comme quoi aux Usa les chiens ont plus de considération que la plupart des humains que la police abatte souvent juste à cause de leur couleur....
