At least four people died and ten others were injured in shootings Saturday night in Stockton, California, in the western United States, during the Thanksgiving long weekend, police said.
“We can confirm that at this time approximately 14 individuals were struck by gunfire and that four victims have died,” the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, of which Stockton is the county seat, wrote in a statement on X. Police indicated that the shootings may have been “targeted.”
According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, speaking to ABC News, the shooting occurred shortly before 6 p.m., while people were gathered for a family party.
“The investigation is still ongoing and information remains limited. Initial findings suggest it may have been a targeted attack, and investigators are exploring all leads.” Authorities have not released any further details regarding a shooter.
“Horrible shooting”
The victims include both children and adults. Details regarding the victims' health and ages are not yet known. Stockton Deputy Mayor Jason Lee stated on Facebook that the shooting occurred at an ice cream parlor during a children's birthday party.
The office of California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on X that it had been informed of the “horrific shooting” and that emergency services are cooperating with the police and monitoring the situation closely.
