Affaire Madiambal-Téliko : La Cour suprême casse l’arrêt
The Supreme Court issued its ruling on Thursday in the case between journalist Madiambal Diagne and magistrate Souleymane Téliko. It partially overturned the Dakar Court of Appeal's March 3, 2025, ruling that imposed imprisonment for debt, but upheld the other provisions relating to the finding of guilt and the sentence.
Madiambal Diagne had been sentenced to three months in prison for defaming Judge Souleymane Téliko. He was also ordered to pay five million CFA francs in damages, as the maximum term of imprisonment for debt had been imposed.
The journalist's lawyers, including Mr. Arona Bass, had filed an appeal seeking to overturn the Court of Appeal's decision.
The highest court ultimately opted for a partial reversal without referral, thus leaving the two protagonists equally at odds on the issue of imprisonment for debt.
