Affaire Omart City : le verdict est tombé
The Pikine-Guédiawaye court has ruled in the case of the massive real estate fraud known as Omart City, which affected more than 500 victims who paid between 5,500 and 6,000 CFA francs for fictitious social housing. Libération reports that Abdoulaye Mamadou Guissé, president of Omart City Senegal, was found guilty of fraud and sentenced to two years in prison, compared to the three years requested by the prosecution. He will also have to reimburse the plaintiffs who filed civil suits.
His "chief of staff", Pape Boubacar Camara, was sentenced to one year in prison, six months of which were to be served.
Khady Faye, accused of having usurped the identity of a supposed close associate of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, was acquitted despite the prosecution's request for a two-year prison sentence, the same source reported.
During the hearing, 200 new victims joined the proceedings as civil parties, highlighting the extent of the harm caused.
