Awa Baba Thiam contre Salla Sow : Le verdict du Tribunal de Dakar
The Dakar Criminal Court delivered its verdict on Thursday, August 28, 2025, after a deliberation since August 14 in the case between Awa Baba Thiam and Salimata Sow, known as Salla Sow. Awa Baba Thiam was acquitted of the charges against her, while Salla Sow, acquitted of defamation, was found guilty of public insults.
She was given a three-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of one million CFA francs in damages to Awa Baba Thiam. At the hearing on June 10, 2025, the public prosecutor requested strict application of criminal law. The civil party, represented by Awa Baba Thiam's lawyer, claimed 100 million CFA francs in damages.
The two former friends accused each other of defamation, public insults, and illegal collection of personal data, a feud that began in 2023 after shocking audio messages were leaked shortly after the wedding of Awa Baba Thiam's daughter. This verdict puts an end to a high-profile dispute, marked by mutual accusations, which captured attention in Dakar due to the notoriety of the two protagonists in social and artistic circles.
