The tragic death of Khalifa Ababacar Sy, a 36-year-old mason who fell from a construction site at the Lycée Seydina Limamoulaye in Guédiawaye, has sparked deep emotion. Contractor Fafa Cissé, head of the Kelimane company responsible for the work, and several of his colleagues were referred to the court and subsequently remanded in custody, underscoring the justice system's particular attention.
According to the Observer, which relayed the information, the prosecutor, who has taken charge of the case, must now decide on the legal follow-up.
The preliminary investigation reveals serious safety breaches: only two harnesses were available for seven workers, and the victim was not wearing a helmet or appropriate equipment. He reportedly fell while attempting to descend from a makeshift plank serving as a railing. This tragedy casts a shadow over the high school reconstruction project, valued at 12 billion CFA francs, revealing the precarious conditions in which workers operate on the construction site.
