Criminalisation de l'homosexualité : And Samm Jikko Yi lance un ultimatum au régime
In response to the recent scandal involving homosexual networks and accusations of intentional HIV transmission, the And Samm Jikko Yi collective has broken its silence. In an interview with L'Observateur, its spokesperson, Adama Mboup, denounces the "apathy" of the new authorities and demands that they honor their campaign promises. According to him, the current situation stems from a lack of firmness on the part of the state: "If they had criminalized homosexuality as they promised, homosexuals would know they are no longer welcome in Senegal."
A deadline set for April 8th
The group is no longer willing to wait and is holding Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko accountable. A clear ultimatum has been set: April 8th. By that date, the group demands the National Assembly vote on the law criminalizing homosexuality.
Failing that, Adama Mboup threatens to launch a large-scale national mobilization: "We will inform the population that this government refused to enact this law [...]. We will go to see religious leaders, traditional chiefs, and the entire nation. They will have to bear all the consequences."
The denunciation of a "legal vacuum"
According to the spokesperson, the current Article 319 of the Penal Code, which condemns "acts against nature," has become obsolete because it only applies in cases of flagrant offense. He points to a "legal loophole that must be filled" to punish new realities such as same-sex marriage or the use of social media for promotional purposes.
"The problem is that this WhatsApp group created by these homosexuals does not constitute a crime. That's why our law stipulates that any glorification, promotion, or financing of homosexuality must be severely punished with between 5 and 10 years of imprisonment."
The source interviewed by the Future Media Group newspaper emphasized that the current majority (formerly Yewwi Askan Wi) had itself introduced this bill while in opposition. Therefore, he rejected any pretext for further delay: "The current regime has no argument for waiting; all they're saying is a fallacious pretext because there is an urgent need to truly criminalize homosexuality and the intentional transmission of HIV/AIDS."
Mboup warned: "We will sanction this government if it refuses to implement this law. [...] No outcome is more urgent than the criminalization of homosexuality. "
