"It was during an unannounced search operation following information about the fraudulent introduction of a mobile phone that a regrettable incident occurred this Saturday afternoon, September 13, 2025, at the Thiès House of Arrest and Correction (MAC). The information comes from the General Directorate of Prison Administration.

He continued: "During this intervention, a group of inmates violently confronted the officers, burning several mattresses and attempting to overpower the guards, who were outnumbered at the time. Faced with this critical situation, the officers deployed the prison law enforcement system to control the situation and ensure everyone's safety."

According to the communications department of the General Directorate of Prison Administration, "Four inmates suffered burns from flames coming from burning mattresses and three officers were injured by stone throwing. They were all immediately treated by the establishment's medical services, and their condition is currently stable."

The General Directorate of Prison Administration strongly condemns these "acts of violence" and reiterates that "security in prisons is an absolute priority." It also states that "an internal investigation has been opened to shed full light on the circumstances of this incident and to determine who is responsible."

The General Directorate of Prison Administration reaffirms its commitment to "maintaining order, discipline and respect for fundamental rights in all penitentiary establishments in the country."
