Inconnu tué dans une cabane : Le présumé meurtrier risque 10 ans de prison
Nearly six years after the discovery of a dead man, his head crushed by a brick, his identity remains a mystery. The criminal chamber of the Mbour High Court attempted to understand the murky circumstances surrounding the death of this individual, found on September 21, 2020, in a shack near the beach. OI Sy, the presumed perpetrator, faces 10 years in prison. On that day, this tire repairman, born in 1979, was found near the body.
According to court proceedings, the suspect was found at the scene with blood spatter on his clothes. He also had injuries to his arm. The victim was lying in a pool of blood after suffering a violent blow to the head.
Before the criminal court, OI Sy denied any involvement in the tragedy. He stated that he knew nothing about the circumstances of the death, claiming that he was drunk at the time of the incident.
"They found me sleeping and they woke me up. I don't know the individual found dead in the cabin," he maintained.
During his arrest, however, he reportedly gave several versions, initially mentioning an assault before stating that the victim had fallen and fractured his head.
Witness Mr. Diaw gave a different version of events in court. He claimed to have heard a violent argument before intervening verbally to ask those involved to stop.
A few minutes later, he said he heard blows and then discovered a man lying in his own blood. Contrary to the accused's statements, he maintains that he did not find him asleep.
"He was sitting in the cabin," he explained, adding that when the idea of alerting the police and firefighters was raised, the accused allegedly tried to leave the scene, stating that he would not wait for the police.
For his part, the accused maintained that the victim was found in front of Mr. Diaw's house and that the latter had woken him up to show him the scene.
Another witness heard, Mr. Doumbouya, confirmed that he heard a violent argument before informing Mr. Diaw, then returning to his post.
In his closing argument, the prosecutor stated that the violence of the blow clearly demonstrated an intent to kill. "The blow was so violent that the victim died instantly."
The public prosecutor argued that, despite his denials, the accused frequented the area and was found there with incriminating evidence. He requested a 10-year prison sentence.
The defense, led by Maitre Mouhamed Fadel Fall, attempted to dismantle the accusations and highlight the inconsistencies found in the case in order to obtain the acquittal of his client.
The verdict is expected on June 19, 2026.
