"Je suis un fou", se défend un prévenu jugé pour le vol de 38 téléphones et 140 000 F CFA
Mr. Ndiaye, a fishmonger, and B. Seydi, a scrap metal dealer, are being prosecuted for robbery committed as a group. They broke into the home of the merchant, Mr. Diakhaté, in Khombole before forcing open the door to his bedroom and stealing 38 mobile phones and 140,000 CFA francs.
In the dock of the Thiès court for flagrant offenses, the defendants admitted to the facts. Mr. Ndiaye stated that he was unconscious at the time of the events.
"This had never happened to me before. It was the first time I had committed such an act. I did not do it on purpose. I was bewitched. I am not in full possession of my mental faculties, I am crazy," he maintained.
His accomplice, B. Seydi, did not attempt to explain himself. A repeat offender, he has already been tried three times by the juvenile court and twice by the Thiès High Court for similar theft offenses.
Mr. Diakhaté stated that he had locked his house. He observed that the thieves had entered through the patio before breaking down his bedroom door to steal his phones and money. He confirmed that he had recovered his stolen belongings and ultimately decided against pursuing legal action.
The public prosecutor considered the facts to be consistent and requested the application of the law.
The verdict is expected soon.
