Le président de l’UMS hausse le ton : “Nous ne sommes pas dans l’émotion…”
The controversial issue of summoning magistrates before the parliamentary committee, as provided for by the new internal regulations of the National Assembly, continues to provoke strong reactions.
When questioned on the matter, the president of the Union of Senegalese Magistrates (UMS), Cheikh Ba, clearly expressed his position. "We are not driven by sentimentality, we are not swayed by emotion," he declared this Sunday on the weekly program "Point de vue" on RTS.
According to him, it is out of the question for the Legislative branch, on the grounds that it makes the laws, to arrogate to itself the right to summon a magistrate to "tell him what to do." "Where is the separation of powers? Where is the security? Where is the independence? When a magistrate knows that he is going to be questioned by members of parliament, how can he now carry out his work in complete freedom?" he asked.
The magistrate was firm: "We will not accept it. We do not support anyone, we do not fight anyone. We are simply carrying out the mission entrusted to us, in accordance with the laws that govern this country and the functioning of the judiciary. We have no intention of interfering in what is happening elsewhere," he stated.
He added: "The judiciary is a specific domain, with a specific and delicate mission. If we weaken it, we weaken the foundations of this Republic. We lead Senegal towards an unknown future."
In his view, this is why the UMS refuses to personalize attacks and debates on justice, and refrains from reacting emotionally. The organization intends to remain in control of when and how it addresses the Senegalese people.

Juste après sa prestation de serment le président diomaye a instauré le dialogue sur la justice en y incluant tous les acteurs. Les conclusions sont disponibles. Mais aucune n'a été mise en pratique, elles semblent avoir été oubliée et mises sous le coude du PR. Qui s'est même permis de se dédire sur le retrait du PR du conseil supérieur de la magistrature.
Pas besoin de blablater. La justice a un problème au Sénégal tout le monde le sait. Des réformes sont nécessaires, tout le monde le sait. Mais rien n'est fait. Au bilan des réalisations de Bassirou Diomaye Faye sur ce plan c'est le vide sidéral. Les sénégalais ont noté et n'oublient pas.
