Logement de fonction : Mbaye Ndiaye gagne et perd, l’ancien ministre assume les…
Former Interior Minister under Macky Sall, Mbaye Ndiaye, now knows his fate. The Dakar Criminal Court delivered its verdict this Thursday in the case opposing him to the National Company for the Management and Exploitation of State-Owned Buildings (Sogepa).
Prosecuted for the destruction of state property, the former minister benefited from a dismissal of the charges (criminal acquittal), reports Les Échos. However, the judge found him liable for civil damage related to the damage observed in his former official residence. Consequently, Mbaye Ndiaye was ordered to pay 20 million CFA francs in damages to Sogepa, whereas the latter, represented by lawyer Ndoumbé Wane, had initially claimed 43 million.
The case concerned the condition of an official residence occupied by Mbaye Ndiaye for twelve years, from 2012 to 2024, and returned after the fall of the previous regime. Upon taking possession of the premises, Sogepa noted, in particular, the absence of doors and windows, as well as various other forms of damage.
In court, the former minister had asserted that he had carried out significant renovation work at his own expense during his occupation, while declaring that, as head of the family, he assumed his share of responsibility for the shortcomings noted at the time of his departure, the daily newspaper recalls.
