Me Bamba Cissé au palais de Justice : Quand le ministre de l'Intérieur n'oublie pas sa robe d'avocat
In a gesture hailed as spontaneous and respectful, the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Maitre Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé, visited the lawyers' room at the Dakar courthouse this morning, according to a statement published by Maitre Magna Brice Sylva.
A welcome return to the roots
A lawyer by training and by heart, Mr. Bamba Cissé has not forgotten his professional family, despite his new responsibilities at the head of the Ministry of the Interior.
This early morning visit to his colleagues illustrates, according to Mr. Sylva, "the closeness, esteem and affection he shows to his professional family".
Appointed minister a few months ago, the man now nicknamed "the country's top cop" was keen to maintain ties with the Senegalese bar, demonstrating that he remains attached to his roots as a lawyer at the court.
In the current climate, where relations between the executive branch and various professional bodies can sometimes be strained, this proactive step by the minister is seen as a strong signal. It demonstrates a willingness to engage in dialogue and to recognize the legal profession, a guardian of liberties and a pillar of the rule of law.
For the lawyers present at the courthouse this morning, this event was experienced as an honor, but above all as proof that one of their own, having reached the highest sovereign functions, does not forget where he comes from, according to testimonies collected by Seneweb.
