Me El Hadj Amadou Sall : « Une mise en accusation de Macky Sall est absurde et juridiquement infondée »
A guest on iRadio's "Sunday Jury," former Justice Minister El Hadj Amadou Sall categorically rejected those who suggested a possible indictment of former President Macky Sall for high treason. The outspoken lawyer called the idea "absurd" and "legally unfounded."
"Frankly, I almost don't want to answer this question, because it's childish and childish," he said.
For him, the debate is legally irrelevant: "It's not possible. Everyone knows that. The Constitution says he is only liable for high treason. But what is high treason? What is its definition? What is its penalty?"
The former Minister of Justice recalls a fundamental principle of criminal law: "There is no crime or punishment without law. What is the crime? What is the punishment? What is the law? Period. The debate is short."
According to him, the supporters of the government who are raising this hypothesis are "showing ignorance" and are seeking to "occupy the political space." "That some brainless people want to occupy the public space by raising this totally idiotic question is their business," he said ironically, denouncing a lack of seriousness and restraint.
Lawyer Amadou Sall also warned against the temptation to turn public debate into a sterile quarrel. For him, "if we were to prosecute for lying, everyone would be brought to justice. Let's shut down the country then."
Looking back on the mobilization of the Front for the Defense of Democracy (FDD) planned for October 31, the former minister expressed confidence. "The front took time, it's true, but it was necessary to let the Senegalese discover for themselves the incompetence and ignorance of those in power. Today, time is doing its work."
For him, politics is a long-term job: "Political life is the ability to share a conviction and inspire hope. It is tireless work. Politicians deserve respect; they do a grueling job and deserve applause."

Ce retournement est tout simplement sidérant. Il prend le contre-pied de tout ce qu’il a lui-même avancé. Ce n’est pas de la cohérence, c’est de l’amnésie politique. Doit-on vraiment continuer à lui tendre le micro ? Pour dire quoi ? Pour défendre qui ? Ce n’est pas un exemple pour personne. Il devrait même se faire oublier.
Quand on ne croit pas une seconde à ce qu’on dit, quand on change de discours selon les circonstances, on perd toute crédibilité. Me Sall ne défend pas des principes, il défend des postures. Et franchement, pitié. Le Sénégal mérite mieux que ce genre de spectacle.
