As Sean "Diddy" Combs' sentencing approaches, scheduled for October 3, his attorneys have filed a 182-page motion requesting early release before the end of the year. The 55-year-old hip-hop mogul, convicted of two counts of transportation for prostitution, which carried a maximum sentence of 20 years, was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
The defense is arguing for a 14-month sentence, with supervised release, drug treatment, and counseling. The attorneys point to the 13 months Diddy has already spent in difficult conditions at Metropolitan.
Brooklyn Detention Center, calling his incarceration “destructive” on both a personal and professional level.
They also cited their client's commitment to rehabilitation, noting that he is sober for the first time in 25 years and has inspired other inmates to follow his example. Despite damning accusations of sexual violence and deviant behavior from two ex-girlfriends, Diddy was cleared of the most serious charges after a two-month trial, during which prosecutors described him as running his label like a criminal enterprise.
The producer will appear in court again this Thursday, while federal prosecutors are expected to submit their recommendations to the judge by Monday. The final decision will rest with Judge Arun Subramanian.
