THIÈS : I. Diop accusé d’avoir incendié un sotck de mil sous l’effet de l’alcool
Twenty-year-old I. Diop is being prosecuted for involuntary arson. He set fire to the millet storage belonging to farmers N. Ndong and M. Ngom. According to Mr. Sarr, an eyewitness, I. Diop started a fire near the millet storage area. The incident reportedly occurred while the accused was drunk.
In court, the defendant denied the charges. "I am not the one who started these fires. On the night in question, I was at home. I didn't leave the house," he argued. But his mother contradicted him, stating that he was not home that night.
The public prosecutor reminded I. Diop that during the preliminary investigation, he had admitted to setting fire to the crops while under the influence of alcohol. He therefore concluded that the defendant was guilty of the acts and requested a three-month prison sentence.
The judge found him guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison, one month of which was to be served.
