Two individuals charged with conspiracy and motorcycle theft appeared before the court in Thiès. They are Mr. Mbow, a shopkeeper, and T. Dia, a delivery driver, accused of robbing Mr. Diagne, a motorcycle taxi driver.
According to the victim, the incident occurred early in the morning, around 7:00 AM. Mr. Diagne claims that Mr. Mbow approached him for a ride. Upon arriving at a secluded location, Mr. Mbow asked him to stop. It was then that a second individual, identified as T. Dia, allegedly appeared, armed with a machete.
Faced with the threat and attempted attack, the victim says she abandoned her motorcycle to save her life. She maintains that she recognized her attackers a few days later at the Grand Thiès market.
In court, the two defendants categorically denied the charges. They believe they were wrongly accused by the plaintiff. T. Dia explained that he had simply approached Mr. Mbow during the police arrest, before being identified as an accomplice by the victim.
In his closing arguments, the public prosecutor acknowledged the theft, while emphasizing the continued serious doubt regarding the defendants' involvement. He therefore requested their acquittal based on reasonable doubt.
The case has been adjourned for deliberation, pending the court's decision.
