Married and a father, 30-year-old O. Seck stole an iPhone 14 Pro Max with the intention of reselling it to provide for his wife's daily expenses. The incident occurred at the fair held at the Promenade des Thiessois (Thiès).
To commit his theft, O. Seck went to this shopping center. There, he encountered D. Barry, who had her phone visible in one of her back pockets. With a swift movement, O. Seck snatched the woman's iPhone 14 Pro Max, intending to resell it. But unfortunately for him, he was spotted by neighbors who shouted "Thief!"
The suspect was apprehended by police officers deployed at the fair and taken to the station. Charged with theft, he was remanded in custody.
In the dock of the Thiès court, O. Seck admitted to the facts. He stated that he had stolen the phone to resell it in order to provide for his wife's daily expenses.
Considering the facts to be consistent, the public prosecutor requested the application of the law.
The defendant was finally found guilty of theft, sentenced to one month in prison and ordered to pay a fine of 50,000 FCFA.
